Hi Sandy: Great piece that is helpful to understand what supplements we are taking. Dr jersamy Kaslow is check our cell content, which he believes is where the supplement need to reach. In my case, he thought the the nutrients were not been absorbed because my channels were blocked. He suggested that I have them unblocked with acupuncture, which I had done with TCM and I got better. The type of water you drink also affects the absorption and the rate of how the nutrients reach the various parts of your body. Appreciate your valuable knowledge. Thanks

Sandy,
I agree with you and Donna on this one. Too many people really do not understand all that goes into supplements. Our bodies are not getting all the nutrients they need so it's important to take good, impactful supplements that actually perform as stated.

Hi Donna,

Thank you so much for your kind words and validation. I just hope that people will not only read this, but look at the labels on their own products and ask their own companies the important questions. They may be used to one brand or another, but they may also be getting very little from it.

A scientist from a laboratory that evaluates supplements once went into a health food store incognito and was asking the owner about the products. The owner very proudly said that he used a specific brand and did so because they never cut corners and you could depend on them all the time. The scientist bought two bottles, took them back to the lab and analyzed their content to compare what the label stated amounts were with the actual amounts in the tablets. That product came out the worst of all the products that they tested. The amounts of certain vitamins were no where near what the label said.

That makes it really important to make sure that the company has a "delivery system" that makes sure you get full value. The amounts could have been there when bottled but broke down before the bottle even got to someone's mouth!

Thanks again,

Sandy

Wow Sandy you knocked my socks off once again. So many people don't understand the concept of what is absorbed in the body and what is not. If you ask most people, they tell you they are taking this or that. But when I ask them do you know if the product is correctly absorbed in your body? Or is it just going in the bowl for $40 a bottle? They give me that puzzled look. I am so glad you brought this topic up.
Thanks

Hello Richard,
Thank you for your insightful comments. You are right, not many companies use food sources as the basis for their supplements. Most minerals are best absorbed through food sources, but a few, such as Calcium can be equally bioavailable in their original form if they are formulated correctly. Most companies simply do not have the means to be sure that their supplements are truly bioavailable and I don't know of any other companies that do the testing to insure bioavailability. I would be interested in knowing any companies that you are familiar with who do that.

I have written other posts about how supplements need to be formulated and may possibly do more research and post more on this topic as well.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

I am aware of food-sourced vitamins and have heard that not many vitamin supplements are made that way. Take it a step further, I know one company that claims to have food-sourced minerals as part of a multi-vitamin and mineral supplement. (They source hydroponically grown leaves from plants fed with mineral rich materials. The theory being pretty much the same as with vitamins and the bioavailability of the supplement's ingredients.) Are you familiar with this? Is this done by many other companies that you know of?

Hi Arlan,
You are so right about the importance of fresh foods. One time a friend of mine drove past a field of vegetables as they were being harvested and she noted the bin that they were using to transport them behind the truck.

She drove by every day for a week before they finally filled it up and took it to the wholesale markets.

When we think we are getting fresh product because they tell you it came off the truck that day, it could be a week or more old.

Just think of how the light and air are depleting even what little nutrient value may be there!

Thanks again for your comments.

Hey Sandy: Interesting. The types of foods we should eat are growing and consumed within 48 hours of being picked. Fresh foods are consumed sometime soon after 48 hour of purchasing it. Cooked and processed food are bad stuff. You certainly know of your nutrition! Thanks.
