WOMEN’S HEALTH SOLUTIONS

As a mom of five who has worked away from home, I have a pretty good idea of what it is like.  When I learned about how my body functioned and how badly I was treating it nutritionally, I was a bit shocked and that is when I began what has so far turned into a 40 year quest to learn about nutrition and health.

We women do have special nutritional needs and cutting down on calories to prevent weight gain makes it very hard to meet those needs from diet alone. That’s why the WOMEN’S HEALTH SOLUTION makes good sense.

As we explore some of the challenges that women face it is easy to see why this is true.

First, lets look at some general patterns. First for the single working woman without children.
1. Get up and grab a cup of coffee, maybe orange juice, and a muffin or donut. Maybe
a granola bar and its off to work. If you are dieting, you may be choosing sugar free.

To learn the perils of going sugar free you’ll want to read my series
part one
, part two, and part three.

2. If you are commuting on public transportation, you may just buy another cup of coffee to drink on the ride.

3. You get to work and its time for another cup and maybe something from the vending machine.

4. Break time. Maybe the “roach coach” comes and you get something there or maybe another trip to the vending machine and more coffee.

5. Lunch. Something you brought from home, leftovers or a sandwich, or maybe a microwave meal, or out for a quick one from Mac Donalds or another fast food place.

6. Break. Now you are having your afternoon slump and need some coffee and a sweet for a pick up.

7. Quitting time. Stop in for some take out, go through a drive through, maybe a frozen dinner, maybe a dinner date! Too tired to do much and probably have some work to do that you had to bring home.

Now what about the working mom?

1. Get up and grab a cup of coffee, possibly some orange juice, and a muffin or donut. Maybe a granola bar or just finish up what the kids left, and its off to work. If you are dieting, you may be choosing sugar free.
To learn the perils of going sugar free you’ll want to read my series part one, part two, and part three.

2. 3. 4. 5. 6 the same as above.

7. Quitting time. Pick up the kids. Stop in for some take out, go through a drive through, maybe a frozen dinner. Too tired to do much and probably to rush go get one or more of the kids to a practice or meeting. Or maybe you have some work to do that you had to bring home. If you have a husband who helps, maybe he takes on some of the after work routine.

So, what’s a frequently frazzled female to do?

This is a routine that will bring your nutrition up dramatically. It isn’t enough to protect you from all the stresses that hit your body but it goes a long way toward helping you to have more energy and stamina and to eliminate the morning and afternoon slump.   Then, we’ll look at the supplements that help to round out the nutritional needs for optimal health.

For starters, embrace two things. The slow cooker and the thermos.

Before going to bed, cut up some veggies, and put them with some stew meat or a roast in the crock pot. Season it and put in a bit of water. Maybe you prefer a wonderful bean and barley and vegetable soup! Now put it in the fridge. In the morning, take it out and plug it in. WOW! A wonderful hot meal ready and all you have to do is add a bit of salad and some whole grain bread and some fruit for dessert!

Also, before bed, put some whole grain cereals (could be a blend of them) or some steel cut oats and some fruit, in a wide mouth thermos bottle with a bit of salt and butter. Add some boiling water and close the thermos. In the morning you have a hot nourishing breakfast. Just add milk or yogurt and maybe more fruit and some whole grain toast. Now you have a fairly good start to your day. Not perfect, but a lot better than before.

Snack time can be some fruit, whole grain crackers, a cup of natural yogurt and or some fresh veggies.

For lunch, try to get some low fat protein, fruit, and whole grain

“Ok, but what about the supplement program you talked about?
What vitamins and stuff should I be using?”

Here is a great starter program.  To see the details of all of these products that I use and recommend and why I recommend each one of the ones listed here, just click here.

For now, though, here are my basic suggestions for supplementing:

  • Multivitamin/multimineral -
  • Vitamin B in a Sustained Release form that does not release everything as it goes, but releases specific components at the spots in the intestinal tract where the are best utilized.
  • Vitamin C –
  • Carotenoids –not just Beta Carotene, but the entire comples
  • Vitamin E – again, not just the Alpha tocopherol, but the entire E complex
  • Omega-3 Fatty Acids -.
  • Probiotic
  • Anti-Aging Tonic –

For Better Results: The Optimal Health for Women Program
Add:

  • An immune regulator
  • Soy or Whey complete meal drink mix
  • GLA Complex – not the precursor of Evening Primrose Oil
  • Calcium Comples – with all the related factors for best utilization
  • Destressing Herbal Complex -

Hi Helen, that is so true. Eating healthy is the first step but as you know, there is much more to health than what you eat even though that is incredibly important.

    I appreciate your comment.

It is so important to make time for good nutrition. I guess one thing that I have going for me is I never acquired the taste for coffee. Thank you so much, Melissa. I’m with you, I have never had a cup of coffee in my life! Never could get past the first tiny tiny taste on the tip of my tongue. LOL. My husband does most of the cooking in our house too so he makes sure we have good stuff too.

Thanks again for your generous comments.

    Hey Sandy… great article!

I feel like I’ve been “on the run” in my life for the last 40 years… and have eaten like that too!

I REALLY need to change my diet, but with so much to do and so little time to do it in, I often feel pressure to “hurry up” and consequently fall victim to just about every bad eating habit out there.

As i was scarfing down a panzerotti and Coke at 11 last night, I had a brief glimmer of what I was doing and then consciously made the decision to change.

Thanks for offering this timely and informative post which I hope to use to get started.
