Why do you use skin care and cosmetics?
Why do you use skin care and cosmetics?
1. Look beautiful?
2. Build healthy skin?
3. Have beautiful and healthy skin?
The choice is yours. There are products that provide each of the above. Most women judge a skin care or cosmetic product by how it feels and looks. Certainly this is one of the main purposes of using these products. But, many of the “look pretty” products are toxic to the body.
You have choice, because fortunately for us, there are products that enable us to be “pretty” and “healthy”.
As a starter your skin is the largest organ of your body, and it is also the first line of defense in your immune system. Toxic chemicals that are applied to the skin are absorbed into the blood stream where over time they do damage to various organs in your body. How much is absorbed? The patches that are used for pain medications and stopping smoking work because the ingredients are absorbed in sufficient amounts.
Many cosmetics and skin care products should be labeled, “use at your own risk. Here are a few of the ingredients and their effects that you may find:
Alcohol – strips protecting oil from skin
Aluminum – central nervous system disorders
DEA(Diethanollamine) – can cause cancer
Formaldehyde – may cause cancer, toxic to nervous system
Synthetic fragrances (many) – may cause cancer
Kaolin – suffocates and weakens skin
Phthalates – liver, kidney, lung, reproduction (This is widely used and not always shown on the label.)
The seven items are a partial list of dozen of toxic chemicals used in cosmetic and skin care products. This illustrates the need to consider health in selecting cosmetic and skin care products.
The bad news is that there are some really dangerous products on the market and cosmetics companies are not required to tell you that they are there! The products may very well make your skin feel and look good while all the while being toxic to your over all health.
The good news is that you don’t have to become a chemist to avoid them You need to do some research and find a company that not only says that they don’t use harmful products, but one that has proven their claims and that holds patents on their innovative technology. There are products that are: hypoallergenic, which isn’t always synonymous with non toxic, and that are also safe and healthy for the body. These products are also free of toxic chemicals that are used for coloring, preservatives, texture, and fragrance.

I have reviewed a large number of products over the years and found some that not only provide nutrients to my skin but actually are scientifically proven to reverse the damage that causes premature aging. That’s me in the picture on the left, and you can see the results of what high quality good for you products can do… I’m 75!

Remember, just because marketing sounds good does not mean everything you can get over the counter is good for you. Remember to be a smart consumer, read labels, and if you are in doubt, feel free to ask a question.
I hope you’ll leave a comment and share with me your skin care successes and struggles. I look forward to hearing from you

I actually used to work with a makeup company for 9 years. It was my home business, and I was blessed to make ltos of people beautiful.
When I quit doing that (once kids are around, so mayn things go bye-bye) and actually found another company, product safety was crucial to me, for the sake of my kids.
I went searching to see if that brand had any of those scary, toxic ingredients. 1. No info could be found on the web–you needed to call the company to get their product ingredient list (what were they hiding?)
2. There was another site I found that listed that particular company using those said products and also fighting to NOT have to tell consumers about their ingredients. I was so mad and distraught!
I immediately called my former customers to apologize for selling something toxic that I didn’t know was toxic.
I of course had boxes of leftovers I wanted out of the house immediately–knowing how bad they were, I didn’t want their “cooties” near my kids.
3. The thing that really killed me, was that this particular company actually has a foundation to help research about the cancers that afflict women.
Well look at your inredients–that’s what’s causing cancers. DUH!

That wouldn’t happen to be a company that has commercials that go “ding dong” would it? There are others as well.
Thankfully, our company has always refused to use an ingredient that is toxic.
